Congratulations, Valerie!

Valerie Doyon of Campbell River Shito Ryu competed at the Canadian National Championships this January 17 and18th in Richmond BC.  Valerie competed in the girls 16-17 -59 kg kumite division and had 5 fights.  She finished with a silver medal. Valerie is a very motivated student who works hard every night.  She does about 20 hours a week of training on her own and in the dojo. Nationals 2014

This past weekend, the Canadian National Championships took place at the Olympic Oval in Richmond, BC.  I got a great view for two of the three days of competition, as I volunteered to do scorekeeping. Congratulations Linda and Mike!

Mike Nakatsu and Linda Kong (UBC Dojo) were married in the full glory of a Vancouver Autumn afternoon, in front of family and friends. It was a beautiful ceremony, and the banquet afterwards was perfect to celebrate the love and commitment of two individuals who are just made for each other!

Black Belt/Brown Belt Workshop

This past weekend was the 56th Black Belt/Brown Belt workshop headed by Sato Sensei, this time hosted at the Hombu Dojo. As always, this was a time for advanced (not in years, in karate-mileage) members to come together, to refine our basics (via Sanchin and Tensho) and to practice more specific skills.
