Black Belt-Brown Belt Workshop at Hombu

Today is Day 1 of our 60th Black Belt-Brown Belt workshop, this time at Hombu Dojo.  This is our semi-annual opportunity for advanced belts to come together socially and to fine tune technique as we become role models and instructors for up-and-coming colour belts. Day 2 of the workshop is the usual time for the advanced belt tests:  from Brown Belt to Black, from 1st Degree on up. Looking forward to photos from the testing tomorrow.  Please send them to me!

Pink Shirt Day Activities

February 25 was Pink Shirt Day in BC. In 2007 a Ninth Grade male student in Canada arrived on the first day of school wearing a pink t-shirt, and was harassed and bullied.  In response, two other male students bought and distributed 50 pink t-shirts to demonstrate solidarity with that student.  This gesture has become an international event - the UN established May 4 as the international date to celebrate human rights and promote solidarity against bullying. Sensei Ota

Sensei Hiroshi Ota is a karate-do instructor at Keio University in Japan, and he met Sato Sensei about eight years ago in India, when he was the national team coach for the Bangladeshi karate team. This past summer, Sensei Sato invited Sensei Ota to come to Vancouver to give kumite workshops.  Last Tuesday, December 16, 2014, Sensei Ota was at Hombu in Vancouver, after which he gave workshops in Courtenay and Pemberton. Results, Black Belt Testing, December 7, 2014

On the weekend of December 6-7, Hombu Dojo hosted the semi-annual Brown Belt/Black Belt Workshop.  Saturday, we focused on our basics. We also learned and practiced Kusanku Sho.
