Post-Summer Break Update!

Summer vacation might mean a break from school, but it does not mean a break from Karate! After holding our annual summer picnic in July, we headed straight into practice for our annual performances – the Powell Street Festival in August and the Nikkei Matsuri Festival on the September long weekend. Weeks of 30+ degree temperatures did not stop our students from attending class or performing outdoors!

In July, Satokai members travelled to Montreal to both compete in and referee for the 2024 Canadian Karate National Championships. Congratulations to Derek Tamagi, Nathan Ng, Brian Wu and Yumi Nakatsu!

Additionally, students from our Shawinigan, QC dojo and our Hombu Dojo travelled to train at our branch dojos in Tokushima, Japan. Temperatures there soared past 40 degrees, making for very interesting and intense training sessions. Our teams were very warmly welcomed, and we wanted to extend a huge thank you to Kanno Sensei and Sakamoto Sensei for their hospitality and instruction!
